Breakfast is a must to start your day on a good note. Filling up with delicious whole grains, fresh fruit, and dairy staves off hunger and gives your body the fuel it needs to carry out your daily tasks. My kids are huge breakfast eaters… they not only eat before they leave for school in the morning, but sometimes eat again when they get to school. We have not always been so fortunate to be able to do so. There were plenty of times when we skipped breakfast and even lunch to make sure we had enough for dinner. Because I know how it is to be hungry and not have food to eat, I make sure that I feed my family and anyone else that happens to be in my home.
Did you know that 1 in 5 kids may go without breakfast every day?!
That is a sad statistic in this country of ours. Thanks to our schools, many of our children are able to have at least two well-balanced meals throughout the day. I am happy to share that Kellogg’s and celebrity dad and actor, Taye Diggs, have teamed up for the Kellogg’s “Share Breakfast” movement to help fight childhood hunger. Kids who start their day with a good breakfast are known to have more energy and can focus on their studies much better.
How can you help?
With 5 simple steps using our social media – each time you do one of the following, Kellogg’s will share breakfast with a child who might otherwise go without:
* Watching and sharing the Great Start Videos on ShareBreakfast.com
* Share the public service announcement with friends.
* Share your “share” on your Facebook page
* Post on Twitter with the #ShareBreakfast hashtag
* Share and repin on Pinterest
As a child, I can remember my mom feeding all of our neighbors and friends. I have taken on that tradition as I love a full house (I have 5 kids of my own) and hate to see any one go hungry. As I mentioned before, I am no stranger to scrimping, saving, and rationing for the week. When I have food, everyone eats. My youngest daughter loves to have her friends sleep over on the weekend, and I always make sure to have plenty for them to eat while they’re in my home.
Yesterday morning, I shared breakfast with my daughter and 3 of her friends. They were so excited to participate in the Kellogg’s Share Breakfast initiative, and I felt good that they had a healthy, filling meal to start their day.
** I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Kellogg’s. I received a product sample as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.
