The 2013 Ultimate Blog Party is Live #UBP13

Ultimate Blog Party 2013

WELCOME to Mother of Pearl It Is! I’m a little late to the party this year! Things have been crazy busy for me, and I wasn’t sure that I would have time to participate in the 2013 Ultimate Blog Party this year. I’ve been partying with the great gals at 5 Minutes for Mom since 2009, and  this is also my 4th year as a blogger. For those of you that don’t already know me, I’m Tree (short for Teresa) … aka Mother of Pearl. Be sure to read my Mother of Pearl, You Say? post to see how I chose that name for my blog. It’s a sweet story, and should explain the rather unusual name.

I’m married to Kevin, the love of my life, for the past 25 years. Together, we have 5 children ranging in age from 10 to 24, plus 1 daughter-in-law to be. We’re also the proud grandparents of 2 beautiful little girls.  You may notice, my tagline reads “Working Girl by Day, Blogger by Night.” That’s because I work outside the home as an appointment scheduler for a State Veterans retirement home. When I’m done with my 9 to 5, I come home to my hubby and kids, take care of household duties, and then start to tackle my email, social media, and blogging duties. Did I forget to mention that I am also the owner and sole designer for Pearl Tree Designs? My plate is full, and sometimes things get a little hairy, but I love my busy days.

A little about me … my family is my world, so you will often hear me talking about them. As a family, we enjoy amusement / water parks, cookouts, swimming, going to the park, the movie theater, and board games. Besides learning and writing about beauty, fashion, cooking, healthy living, and such – my other passions include being pampered, traveling, napping, enjoying a glass or two of my sweet red wine, and indulging in my favorite dark chocolate!

Being that the hubby was a chef/cook since we met 25 years ago, he fattened me up pretty well. Over 100 lbs. in fact. Just couldn’t resist his delicious cooking. After going from being a gymnast and a dance team member in high school, I struggled for many years to lose that over 100 lbs. I tried diet after diet, battling my morbid obesity (yes, that is the category I fell under), and would lose a little here and there.

Finally, at age 48, and after being diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea, I decided (with my family’s blessing) to undertake Gastric Sleeve surgery. Not an “easy way out” as some may believe. In fact, it’s been tough as hell! But, definitely the best decision I’ve ever made. After an 81 lb. weight loss, I no longer have diabetes, OR high blood pressure, OR sleep apnea! I look and feel so much better and healthier, and most importantly, I have a better chance of being here much longer for my family. Still working on the last 40 lbs, but I’ve learned so much about eating and fitness, and I try to pass some of that along to my readers in hopes that I can help even one person going through the same or similar struggles.

Well, enough about me! I guess you can also see that I have a tendency to ramble on forever and ever! :) Now, I want to meet all of you! So, please… leave me a comment and let me know where you’re from. And don’t forget to leave your link, so I can hop over and get to know you as well! Have fun and Happy Partying!!
